The Magical Ritual of the Sanctum Regnum: Interpreted by the Tarot Trumps

Unveiled for the first time in English, The Magical Ritual of the Sanctum Regnum presents an extraordinary, previously unpublished manuscript by the legendary occultist Éliphas Lévi—born Alphonse Louis Constant—whose profound influence shaped the course of Western esotericism. This enigmatic text, handwritten by Lévi himself and preserved within the pages of a rare 1567 edition of Trithemius’ De Septem Secundeis, offers a mystical framework that interweaves Tarot symbolism with the cosmic rule of the Seven Archangels—Saturn to Sol, Orifiel to Michael—each governing epochs of human history in a grand celestial cycle. From the Flood to the birth of Christ and beyond, Lévi explores the spiritual architecture of time and destiny.Brought to publication through the generosity of Edward Maitland—visionary collaborator of Dr. Anna Kingsford and recipient of the manuscript from Baron Spedalieri, Lévi’s devoted disciple—this edition is enriched with Lévi’s own vivid Tarot illustrations, facsimile plates, and detailed commentary. The accompanying notes offer cross-references to Lévi’s major works, the teachings of P. Christian, Papus, and other esoteric authorities, guiding the reader through the veiled correspondences of number, letter, symbol, and archetype.A profound key to the mysteries of the Tarot and the secret traditions of Hermetic thought, this volume is an essential addition to any occult library—a treasure for the initiate and curious seeker alike. “The Cross—four, multiplied by the triangle—three, gives twelve: the complete number of a cycle. The Hebrew letter Tau represents the Universe.”First published in London, February 1896. Read more
