Robert Mapplethorpe - First Edition, 1988. Softcover. 216pp. Heavily illustrated from black and white photographs.
The book is published on the occasion of Mapplethorpe's first major American museum exhibition, at the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York, and it includes essays from three distinguished contributors, Richard Howard, Richard Marshall, and Ingirid Sischy. Foreword by Tom Armstrong. It reproduces early work from the seventies, a number of unique works, and a substantial body of new colour work. It is the definitive volume on one of the world's most disturbing, elegant, and seductive photographers.
